Skirtings hide the gap between floor and wall, protect the plaster from mops and vacuum cleaners, and make a new floor look complete. Innocent cuts and fits skirting to the walls, mitres the corners, and can paint or seal it to match the room. A new laminate floor nearly always needs new skirting.
