Working in Vaal Triangle

The Vaal Triangle is two towns with different stories. Vereeniging is the older one, an established town on the Vaal River. Vanderbijlpark was laid out later around the steelworks, which is why many of its suburbs still go by section codes like CW and SE instead of names.

The river ties them together. Properties along the Vaal, in areas like Three Rivers, often have thatched lapas, big trees and outdoor spaces that get plenty of use through summer. That puts lapa thatching and tree felling near the top of the list, along with painting and, once winter comes, firewood for the braai and the fireplace.

Vanderbijlpark’s numbered sections are full of freestanding homes, many dating from the town’s early steelworks years and now due for repainting inside and out. Vereeniging has a similar mix, from established suburbs like Arcon Park and Duncanville to larger homes near the river. Sebokeng, Sharpeville and Bophelong add many township homes with their own painting and repair needs. Properties on the river bring the bigger jobs: tall trees, old lapas and firewood for the colder months.

Getting to Vaal Triangle
